The images collected in this book were created in the particular context of an artist's residency organized by Contretype in Brussels during two creative stays, one in the summer of 2003 and the other in the spring of 2006.
"Through photography, Engström does not try to explain, but to make us feel the absurdity of the human condition, and these images send us back to our solitude of the world," writes Jean Louis Godefroid, director of the Espace Photographique Contretype, in the book's preface. Upsetting and deliberately clumsy, J.H. Engström's images are presented in the form of 29 triptychs, supplemented by excerpts from his diary.
