Rue des Lombards

At the end of 1975, Jane Evelyn Atwood, who has settled down in Paris only recently, carries out her first story in black and white, in a simple, efficient and sensitive writing. When meeting a prostitute from the Rue des Lombards, she discovers a universe where everything fascinates her : extraordinary characters, incredible costumes, a certain vision of men … The entrance of the building is miserable, the walls are filthy, the floor covered with cigarette buts, a piss smell invades the whole place, but the desire to get to know better these women will convice Jane Evelyn Atwood to share their life.

More than thirty years afterwards, the Xavier Barral Editions are gathering for the first time the badly known work of Jane Evelyn Atwood. It stands as a beautiful tribute to these women, to their generosity, and to the Paris of the end of the seventies.
