Les nuits de Place Blanche

The nights of Place Blanche plunge us into the nightlife of Paris in the 50s and 60s, in the transsexual community of a district near Pigalle. Christer Strömholm, considered the father of contemporary photography in Sweden, photographs characters in an intimate and exuberant way, in the street or in the hotel rooms where they live. For the author, it is a work on the freedom of each individual to choose his or her life and identity which, over time, has evolved into a set of moving memories of human strengths and weaknesses. In short, it is a series that distills fragility and beauty and symbolizes what photography means for Strömholm: the opportunity to explore the great questions of human life, love, death and loneliness.
