"A Wedding at the Dwarf Empire" features the photo shooting of a wedding couple with the backdrop of the Dwarf Empire, a theme park built in 2009 in Kunming, China, where more than 100 Chinese dwarves live and perform for tourists. These little people range from two feet and just over four feet in height, and they all live in small mushroom-shaped houses. While many consider the idea of putting the dwarves on shows exploitative and insulting, Chow sets aside the controversies and takes the commune as the visualization of a fairyland. Through the colorful and strangely designed houses and the twice-a-day variety shows of the little people, he provides a more positive view to the place where the dwarves can earn a better living, while still offering a happy and fantasy-like experience for the newly-weds.
