Where Ndar (the Wolof name for Saint Louis of Senegal) is solar and full of life, Here or There (2010) made during a trip to the United States, is colder and distanced.

Nevertheless, both of them explore in a childlike poetry the memory if encounters with people or with places, in the form of unexpected and always unique objects.

During his trips, José Ramón Bas does not write anything, but takes photographs associated with the trips. They do not record the notice-able steps of a journey. His photographs, taken with cheap or children's cameras with low technical skills does not interfere with his photographic spontaneity; those photographs are deliberately imperfect. Often overexposed, or blurred, they are the raw material the artist feeds with his memories."
