50 ans de photographie française de 1970 à nos jours

This book fills a gap: until now, there has been no synthesis that allowed us to appreciate the nature and scope of French photography since the end of the Thirty Glorious Years. The gamble is daring: how to include the different photographic practices ranging from information to contemporary art?
Through thematic approaches, such as the renewal of reportage, passion for the landscape or social testimony, the book allows us to reconstruct the diversity of a French scene. From the newspaper to the museum, from self-reporting to documentary ambition, from militant testimony to plastic experimentation, photography has made its cultural revolution to become no longer just a profession or a passion, but an expressive language.
Beyond the humanist photographers who characterized "French" photography up to the "Trente Glorieuses", nearly three generations are revealed here, constituting a French scene that is much more than a "school".
Put back into its institutional and intellectual context, the idea of photography "in France" appears as a major artistic and social fact.
