Reflections on the city: photographs by Gabriele Basilico, with an interview featuring Yona Friedman, Stefano Boeri, and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Over the past fifty years, urban space has undergone unprecedented transformations, including the development of peripheral areas where the traditional city dissolves. Scattered City, created between 2001 and 2004 around the world, makes visible, within an apparently shapeless environment, ruptures and perspectives. Modern buildings, sometimes remarkable, stand alongside older or temporary constructions, and architecture becomes part of a whole made up of roads, railways, fragments of nature, and vacant spaces. Through the attentive precision of the gaze, one ultimately experiences less chaos than the dignity of a complex reality, even its unexpected beauty.
