Christian de Portzamparc, the first French architect to receive the Pritzker Prize, Christian de Portzamparc has established himself as a leading figure in contemporary architecture thanks to his innovative urban vision, shaped by his education at the École des Beaux-Arts. Originator of the concept of the “open block,” he proposed an alternative to Le Corbusier’s functionalist model by reinventing the relationship between buildings, streets, and public spaces. This approach was notably realized in the Cité de la Musique and the Masséna district in Paris, demonstrating that it is possible to increase urban density while preserving quality of life.
