Samman Rima

Multidisciplinary artist, eclectic filmmaker, and Franco-Lebanese producer. After graduating with a degree in orthoptics from Pierre and Marie Curie University, she interrupted her thesis in Arabic sociolinguistics at Sorbonne Nouvelle to work in cinema. She has held several positions on films by directors such as Bruno Dumont and Ziad Doueiri. Her fiction films have been pre-purchased by France 3 and Arte and have won awards at festivals, while her experimental films and essays have been screened at festivals, museums, and movie theaters.

In 2020, his photo book L’amour se porte autour du cou (Love is worn around the neck), published with text by Sylvain Prudhomme, was released by Filigranes Éditions. This series has been exhibited at the Portrait(s) Festival in Vichy, Paris Photo, Unseen, Menart, Stimultania, Espace Culturel St-Cyprien, Festival Photo Road in Gibellina, etc. In 2024, she completed the hybrid feature film Dans le coeur une hirondelle (A Swallow in the Heart), which was selected in some fifteen countries and won two awards. It is scheduled for theatrical release in 2026. In 2025, her artist's book Le bonheur tue, published with a text by Jean-Yves Jouannais by Filigranes, was shortlisted for the author's photo book prize at the Rencontres d'Arles 2025. Her photographs are included in the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Mediterranean collection of the Orestiadi Foundation, and private collections in France, Spain, and the United States. She is currently working on her next series of photographs, L’humeur est humaine, and her next feature film, Pas de tristesse.
